It reminds me of a weekend this summer. The Harringtons planned a camping trip in Midway. Robbie and Jason made golfing plans for the next morning, so Merrilynne, Jaidyn and I strategized our morning hike. Since Robbie and I left the house at 5:30 in the morning in order to make it there on time, I did not take notice to what the weather might be. Here is a quick list of events that filled our morning!
- The park was not open so I attempted to hitch a ride to their campsite. Hitch hiking at 6:00 am in the mountains... not the best idea!
- Once I arrived I was attacked by the Harrington guard dog (aka Penny, the Yorkie!)
- We attempted to make pancakes and eggs for breakfast, but it was so cold outside that the pans would not heat up long enough to cook the food.
- Very quickly it started raining so the hike was out... we ran to shelter. (Along with the entire cooler, box of fire pit things and all of our belongings.
- After 10 minutes in the tent, the water started to come through and leak... thank goodness we had a tablecloth!
- Five more minutes into our attempt to play a game of cards we were interrupted by a loud sound. HAIL.
Note the white ground... yes friends, that is the snow STICKING to the ground!
Thank goodness Robbie and Jason arrived to rescue us. Everything was soaked. We didn't get to burn calories hiking, but we did burn some laughing. At least today I am in a warm building while watching the snow rather than a tent!

That is a GREAT story! I sure miss seeing all of you gorgeous girls everyday!
I'm with you on the mixed emotions. I was ready for summer to be over... but really snow already? I think we are in for another long winter!
Such cute pics! Miss J is getting all grown up!
Um....we didn't do lunch! how about next monday?
Hi Mel! How are you! It has been a long time! Snow..Im not ready thats for sure!
That was a fun camping trip in spite of the fact that it only lasted 15 hours! We spent days getting ready for it and then I spent 11 hours cleaning up the muddy mess once we got home (a day early)!
Yeah, we still have a little resentment over that trip! In fact, I noticed on Jaidyn's calendar the other day:
August 15-16: Camping trip
But the date was crossed out with a big arrow and a note at the top of the calendar that read:
"No camping trip. It rained and snowed on us instead!"
I guess we'll have to find a way to make it up to her! A week a Disneyland maybe?
