Maybe if I was more sentimental...

I have never been the type of girl to save things... I don't have my high school dance flowers or notes from friends. I don't even have much from my wedding, besides my pictures. I try to clean out my closer often and if I haven't worn something in 6 months, I usually throw it away. Very rarely do I look back and wish I still had something I have already parted with. While cleaning the house last Saturday I suggested to Robbie we finally move the blinds from our bedroom downstairs into the garage and purchse new ones. Why is this so monumental? Keep reading...

On May 13, 2005 Robbie and I were married. My sisters wanted to help our first romantic night be memorable, so they decorated our new town home. It was perfect... Michael Buble was playing... the lights were low... rose pedals on the floor... a table of favorite treats... anything you could dream of. While I went to "freshen up" and change, Robbie lit the candles. Both being a little nervous, we weren't as observant as we traditionally are. When I walked out of the room, I noticed a little smoke, but assumed it was from a new candle or recently blown out match. However after a few minutes... I saw a spark out of the corner of my eye. We were steaming up the windows! Literally... the blinds were melting from the candles below.
The next night at our reception my family was interested to know what we thought of the decorations and how everything went. Robbie and my first response was "it was pretty HOT!"

This story has been a classic while giving tours of our house. My siblings have even told it to friends, so when we meet them they ask "are they the ones who melted the blinds?" Everyone thought we needed to keep the blinds.... "You have to show your kids before they get married..." "Hang them at your 50th Wedding Anniversary!" "They are classic! You should put them in every bedroom you ever live in!" But I just couldn't do it. I figure, the pictures tell the story and take up less space. Plus, we have learned to manage our "hot nights" better, so these blinds will stay nice and straight!

That is so hilarious, I think that you have told me that story before, but I can't remember. I am so like you, I don't keep things either, and I have already cleaned out my closet 3 or 4 times since Corey and I have been married. It's amazing I have any clothes left. Anyways, Corey and I finally have a blog so check it out, it's coreyandshari.blogspot.com. We should work out sometime, or just bake cookies again. Same thing right?!

A classic for sure. That cracks me up. And I'm with you: the blinds are worth saving. You've documented the event on film and in blogland.

i LOVE that you documented that story! The pictures are priceless! I laughed out loud when I read that, remembering how funny it was when you and Robbie took me upstairs to show me the blinds. Oops! Totally my fault - I put the candles there! Hey - you gonna blog about the broomstick from the night after the reception? You do remember our conversation upstairs at the Harringtons with the broomstick, right? hahahahaha!
